It was July of 2010 when I
bought my first digital camera. I had
many options then from different manufacturers---- Sony, Canon, Panasonic,
Olympus, Samsung, etc…name it! but I settled for Olympus utough 6020. It was one of the latest digicams back then
and I guess the sales person was really good at doing his job of convincing me.
That time it was worth Php 19, 995.00. It came with accessories and a 1-year
warranty. He also offered me an EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE of 2 years( an
additional Php 2400.00) which sums up to a total of 3 years warranty service.

Sad to say, Olympus utough 6020 is not as tough as it
claims to be. From July 2010 up to April 2013, I had to return it to the shop’s
service center 5 times for repair!!!! Just
imagine the days and weeks wasted just
because the camera was not functioning.
April 2013. After 3 weeks of waiting for the repair
(again!) of my almost 3-year old OLYMPUS
UTOUGH 6020, Madz of Electroworld –
MOA branch called me up to inform me that my unit is already for replacement. She
did not give me the exact reason why but maybe, just maybe since the unit is
already phased out, the service center must have had a hard time looking for new spare
parts ( or maybe, they grew tired of my complaints J
). Well one good thing about EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE ( offered only
once) is that the unit gets to be replaced in cases like mine. Three more months
and I would not have been able to avail this. Good timing!
Madz gave me 2
options for unit replacement (mind you, both are free and brand new! :) (1)
Olympus Tough 630 or (2) CYBER SHOT SONY
TF1… Good! I get to choose… but it was not that hard to decide which one I
will take. Of course this time I will go with CYBER SHOT SONY TF1. My Olympus Tough had caused me numerous
headaches! I’m sure Olympus offers great gadgets. However with my experience
with Olympus Tough 6020, I will need to think twice or thrice before spending
my hard earned money on their items.
So now I welcome my latest
gadget, SONY CYBER SHOT TF1… I hope
you will be good to me (haha!). With 1 year store warranty and 2-year SONY
warranty, what more could I ask for?
