I
am afraid of heights. But not to the point of being called an acrophobic , or a person with extreme or
irrational fear of heights. So when I visited Cebu City with a friend last
January 22, 2014, the idea of trying out the world’s first urban sky zip at
Crown Regency Hotel and Towers (Fuente-Osmena) brought about a mixture of
excitement and panic within me.
It
was already five in the afternoon when Maureen,
Trixie and I headed to the hotel. We
wanted to experience the adventure while the sun is about to set. Nothing beats
a breathtaking view of the setting sun and the city of Cebu while our lives are
put into risks (hahaha!).
Our
first adventure – the
Skywalk Extreme. We walked a path around the 37th floor
outer-rim of the hotel.
Our
second adventure- the Edge
Coaster . Located on the 38th floor of the hotel, we viewed
the city while locked onto a rail seat of the edge coaster which has a lever
that could tilt the seats up to 55 degrees.
Final
adventure- the Tower Zip & Sky Lift – This
extreme adventure is located on the 40th floor of the hotel. We
zipped across Tower 1 to Tower 3 at a distance of 250 ft (about 8 seconds) and
returned to Tower 1 on a Sky Lift ( at a much slower pace). It was during this experience when
representatives of the Department of Tourism approached us and asked us if we
could voluntarily be part of a video clip promoting the rise of Cebu and other
neighboring Visayas provinces after these regions were greatly affected by the
earthquake and typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) late last year. Of course we agreed to
it. J
All
in all the extreme adventures cost us Php 1200.00. A dinner buffet is
included in the package as well as the certificates and use of safety gears. A
deposit of 100 pesos is needed for the temporary use of the locker. A
friendly reminder: do not forget to bring your own socks if you will be using the shoes
provided by their staff.
By
the way, cell phones and cameras are not allowed during the said thrilling
experience. You need to buy the photos you like at 150 pesos each!
In
general, it was a risky experience -- - but a thrilling and heart stopping one.
I will definitely do these again in the near future.
